PA/PE: Promoting Positive Lifestyle Change in the Community Panel Presentation:
Fuel Up to Play 60 was presented by Angie Tazio, Registered Dietitian and Territory Manager at Dairy Council of California. The breakout session took place at the Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Program: Healthy School Summit-Cultivating Healthy Central Valley Schools, on September 16, 2011. There were local School Administers, Food Service Directors, Health Educators, Physical Education Teachers, School Nurses, and After School Program Directors who attended the physical activity and physical education breakout session. A Fuel Up to Play 60 program overview was provided with emphasis on the role of the Program Advisor, program website, and online resources. The session described what the program is and how it works. The program website and online resources included six easy steps schools can take towards improving their healthy campus environment and getting students actively involved. The Fuel Up to Play 60 introductory DVD was also viewed by all attendees, this was a great guide for school leaders to jumpstart a healthy eating and physical activity program at their schools and serve as a Program Advisor for their students.
The breakout session was very successful in attendance and captivated school leaders. There were approximately 50 school leaders in attendance who gained the knowledge and tools to better their school environment. We look forward to future Fuel Up to Play 60 success stories from the Central Valley!
