Pioneer Middle School in Tustin, CA is once again a Fuel Up to Play 60 rock star! Pioneer Middle school used Fuel Up To Play 60 to give their cafeteria a makeover. The Healthy Eating Play, A Little Paint Can Go a Long Way, gave the students a chance to give their cafeteria a facelift. Students were encouraged to enter their healthy lifestyle design into Pioneer’s mural contest. The mural contest lasted 2 weeks and the theme included the school colors, mascot, and had to promote healthy foods and being physically active.
Last Friday, December 16, 2011, during the Student of The Month Assembly, contest participants were awarded with certificates and the winning design for the mural contest was announced. Congratulations to the 8th grade winner, she did a spectacular job!
Wildcat Winner: The winning design is to be painted on the school cafeteria wallcome February to improve the eating environment. The winner will also have their original drawing blown-up and framed next to the mural.
To compliment their new mural; they will also revamp their menu item names by using the Point-of-Purchase Promo Play to help promote an awareness of healthy choices that the cafeteria offers. Students will participate in a monthly contest to rename Pioneer’s healthy food choices by entering their submissions into a designated box. Awinner will be chosen every month. The food item will rotate monthly- one from breakfast and then one from lunch.
Wildcat Winner: The breakfast winners will be able to invite 9 friends to a catered breakfast meal featuring their spotlighted food item!
Pioneer Middle School is a great example of what can be done within your district.
A HUGE thanks to Fuel Up to Play 60 in partnership with Tustin Unified School District’s Nutrition Services for funding the cafeteria makeover.
